Quick start leaflet

A printed guide for devices that come with Syncloud already on them. Sellers can put one in the box, and anyone can print one for themselves.

One A4 sheet in colour, printed on both sides: the first page, then the second on the back, flipping on the short edge. Fold it in three so the cover ends up on top.

Before you start

What you need

  • The device, with its Syncloud card inserted
  • Its power supply
  • An ethernet cable
  • A router with internet access and a free network port
  • A phone or computer on the same network
  • An email address, for your Syncloud account
Optional

A USB disk for more storage. The card has room to start with; a disk can be added at any time from Settings.

The first start takes a few minutes. Leave the device powered while it prepares itself.

The subscription

The first month is free

Why a subscription? Syncloud shows no ads and does not sell or share your data. Your files stay on your device, not on our servers. The subscription is how the project is paid for, and it covers the services around your device:

  • its name, such as name.syncloud.it
  • the certificate that secures it
  • the relay, for networks that cannot be reached from outside
  • mail relay and support

Current price at syncloud.it. If it ends, nothing is deleted: the device, apps and data stay. Only the name stops working. You can also use your own domain instead; see Dev mode in the wiki.

Up-to-date instructions syncloud.org/setup

Inside: three steps
1

Connect

  1. Check the Syncloud card is in the device.
  2. Connect the device to your router with the ethernet cable.
  3. Plug in the power supply. The device starts on its own.
  4. Wait a few minutes for the first start to finish.
2

Activate

  1. Find the device's address: the Syncloud app for Android finds it on your Wi-Fi, or look for it in your router's list of connected devices.
  2. Open it in a browser, for example https://192.168.1.20. A certificate warning at this step is expected.
  3. Create your free account at syncloud.it and choose a name for the device.
  4. Set the device's own username and password. Keep them safe.
